The Hawthorne Effect
Psychologists often use a form of prescriptive psychology. This is the idea that if you have more options, it's easier for people to do what they want. But this theory only works in confined situations and with certain criteria. The Hawthorne effect can also make research not work when carried out in real-world conditions.
