When Is the Right Time to Look for an Agent?

When is the time that you should start looking for an agent as someone starting out? I really think unfortunately because this world is so insular that the agents do play this mega role of the introduction. But again, if you really have a strong voice, one of the very first things to think about is again, who's helping exploit that voice in the greatest way for your growth?
