The Importance of Rural Settlement in Australia
After World War I, there were a lot of soldiers in Australia. They moved to rural parts of the country as part of a rural settlement effort described as a state scheme. The government purchased about 90,000 hectares of land that was not actually very good for farmland. Many hedged their bets using their land for mixed farming like growing wheat and producing wool at the same time.
