Is Suicide a Sin in Islam?

Suicide is a sin in Islam, Christianity and Sinat-Nadarma. Buddhism would categorize it as pointless and foolish. People have had out of body experiences where they come back to life but hear things that are impossible from another room. They can say exactly word for word what their friends were saying at the moment they died. I've never had anything like that happen, but it's fascinating.
