The Importance of Mode Awareness in Schema Therapy

A mode is what appears in the present moment based on underlying schemas and automatic schema coping. If you have a mode, you cannot directly understand what the Schema behind it is. So especially with coping modes, we have to sort out the beliefs which are called critic modes because our belief system operating in the background contributes to a coping mode. And this is why we have to first label the modes and then step back to what is the experience behind it.
