Darwin's great insight was that a constant, slow process could generate huge things. Nobody had an idea what they were at the barrier reef was all about. The corals are related to jelly fish and sea anemomes. They gethe nutrition from the coral animal, and they soak up energy from sunlight. And the coral animal uses that to drive its own machinery.
