"My mother had me out of wedlock. She hid me in an orphanage for two years, and then presented me to her family as adopted which i guess was a little bit more face saving than having a child without being married," she says. "So that sense has stayed with me, you know, when i don't feel quite accepted, or what maybe others can let roll off their backs more easily."
