The Second All Russia Congress of Soviets

There were 670 delegates assembled for this congress, 300 of them bolsheviks. But even their outsize proportions only netted them a strong plurality,. And they still needed the left s r support them. Practically everyone in the room agreed the provisional government was not legitimate. They agreed the soviet needed to claim power and use it as a base of an all socialist government who would govern until the constituent assembly was called. Despite some very vocal pushback from the bolshevik leadership, this motion carried nearly unanimously.
