The Socratic Mindset and the Power of Argumentation
Socrates didn't use terms like utilitarianism himself. The Socratic method is fundamentally optimistic about people's capacity to engage in this kind of debates. I think we often rely on persuasion appeals to emotion metaphor when we're talking to people. pointing out contradictions with a willing participant is very powerful. And it is also empowering for them and puts the power in their hands.
