The Importance of Democracy in Science

Professor Morris: We as a society have long since lost any kind of real grip and understanding of what scientists are actually doing. No wonder, as he said, people are uneasy with the pace of change because we just don't understand. He skewered this idea that politicians would stay out of science as it were. It's because its politics is already there. There's no such thing as pure research. Someone's paying people to do it. And you actually need to be a little bit more critical about that.
