Habiba Badrun is a South African poet who also teaches part of the year in the United States. Her poem, 'The Pen' describes her and father's reconciliation after years of estrangement. The pen holds a lot of power in the poem but crucially isn't the final image. She might have found it after she wrote this poem but the loss of the pen is like a gateway into describing the relationship with loss.
