What's the Cluelessness Objection to Altruism?
The c lessness objection is an objection to am utilitarianism in general. It's basically that everything you do has these ripple effects through time. And so even if the intervention you want to do seems like you're a good effective s, and it seems like to have clearly positive direct effects, or direct impacts, you don't know what the indirect impacts are going to be. Em: I think my critique of those kinds of arguments is that once you get to things that are very causally distant, if you have no reason to expect the second or third order of facts to be negative instead of positive, then it's probably better to just act like they exist.
