For the higher classes, we respect all the previous eras except the most recent one. The idea that you diss the latest fashion would make perfect sense from a simelian perspective. And this raises for me a broader issue about the relationship between fashion and temporality. But I think we also should think about how fashion conditions our relationship to the present.
