The united states helped to install a pro western government in south viet nam, then spent two decades propping up and defending that unelected government. And so by the by the 19 sixties, you have a story that gets told to the american public that southviet nam is being defended against a communist insurgency coming from the outside. It's a brilliant kind of slight of hand, but you would never a, you could have american politicians saying the exact same thing in 19 60 - what do you mean we're an empire? What do you mean this is an imperial war?
