The Evolution of John Bacchus' Programming Languages
John Bacchus is the man behind Algol Fortran. He introduced a language called FP, which stood for function program or function programming. In FL, he had these things called combining forms, two of which were basically combinators. It's widely not known that J wasn't just an evolution of APL and it was a combination of FL and APL.
