Introduction

Amaresh Mishra's 1857, 1857, War of Civilizations is a very different kind of book because it sort of outlines a whole different politics and way of analyzing and understanding South Asian history. Some people minimize the events of 1857 and they call it a mutiny. And others, some people like the Hindutva people, Vier Sarvarkar, people like that call it the first War of Independence. But I think my understanding of it informed and part by your book is that it's much bigger. Like it's just much bigger.
