The thing that makes humor work is that there's part of your brain that tries to make logical something that's not logical. There's a famous farside comic where the murderer was in a clock store and every one of the clocks has a bullet hole in it. Just being stupid isn't funny enough because you could write those jokes all day. Dad humor is one of my favorite genres because it knows that you're going to groan at the jokes.
