IoT - What's the Point?

People want data from their devices that they can aggregate in some dashboard and either use that data to provide some value to their customer or maybe you're monitoring performance in a plant, right? So this is a simple way of how it starts. I want to get data on how my devices are operating so I can see it in aggregate or I can run some analysis on it to make something happen. And you need some way to get that data and the best way is to have a centralized server that your devices can talk to to report information is needed.
