The Jewish Revolt, the Story of Hanika
Ptolemy said, here's hellenism. I really feel like all you jews need to be greeks. And the jews were able to either love that or resist it. But eventually the selucids go to war against the ptolemies. They take over the temple and a man sacrifices a pig on the altar of god in their temple. That leads to an eight-day revolt where they kick out theselucids. The hasmonian dynasty then ruled for 20 years before becoming completely hellenistic. It was this priestly class known as the sadducees.
