The Importance of Cars in African American Life

The car was a huge accomplishment for African Americans because they owned it at a time when the government did not make it easy for African Americans to buy houses. Black people started buying big cars if you had three children. That means the children could stretch out on the bench seat in the back and go to sleep. But also you bought a car with a powerful engine. Remember that you could be stopped unexpectedly. This was an act of safety and comfort. It was not a waste of money as white people viewed it.
