The Importance of Raffles
He wasn't born into greatness. He could have started and finished as a junior clerk at the East India Company. In real life, I think he was small. He had a stoop. A lot of the early knowledge of raffles is based on the memoir that was written by his second wife, Sophia. She leaves out anything that would cast raffles in a negative light. You get this very positive image of raffles coming out from this book. It's essentially a hegemony.
