I Wasn't Loyal to Pope, I Was Loyalist to McClellan
General FitzJohn Porter made the remark, well, I wasn't loyal to Pope. The charge against him before the court martial was that he did not do his duty as an officer before the enemy. He said what he said in the privacy of his own room without thinking of the effect of his words. That pretty much summed it up. As if they were enemies, which is exactly how McClellan's West Point click saw the matter.
