Study found that few people reached out sideways to their colleagues before they started socializing the idea themselves. If you have an idea to sell your boss, is it you that is speaking ut with that idea, or should someone else do it for you? Is someone else actually abetter position to sell that idea, compared to you? And last thing, which i think is really important and probably under utilized, is that if you have someone else bring up an idea for you, that in and of itself sends signals. It's now more than one person bringing up an idea.
