The Inquisition of Heretics in the Middle Ages

From 1250 on, inquisition was pretty much constant. Inquisitors were consistently being charged with papal authority to investigate heresy in particular places for a set period of time. They gained favor more broadly through the emerging systems of secular justice that were coming into existence around this time.
