The Importance of Shaped Operations
Sh shaping operations can be exceptionally violent because you are trying to rest the initiative from the situation. The enemy know what you're trying to do and they's trying to do exactly the same to you so all of these things combined means that it's very difficult to point at something go aha that's a shaping operation. It was a fairly new concept it came around 20 years ago to actually put a name on it put a name to a thing that you were already doing.
