There's something about the story of a rock star that works unlike any other. You don't need to watch many rockstar biopics to learn the pattern. A great lead roll in a movie that can't quite keep up, following someone destined for greatness from their humble beginnings and end with the biggest, loudest performance you can. But wait, where did that script come from? Plenty of films are formulaic, but that formula has to start somewhere.
