The Importance of Self-Transcendence

Sariputra: I had a vision of the 500 parasols combining to form the vast canopy covering the heavens as my ideal. He understood this to me that he needed to practice self-transcendence, going beyond himself for the benefit of others or to look after the needs of the situation. Sariputra: Looking back I can see that I had a very crude and inaccurate notion of how to do that but I didn’t know that I didn't know. In other words, I thought I knew.
