A recent previous attempt is still an indicator of a future likelihood to make an attempt. It's not just because somebody did something 30 years ago that they're immediately at risk for doing something now. A non-fatal one-year re-attempt rate of 15% and a fatal attempt rate of somewhere between 0.5 and 2%. That 0.5 to 2% rises to about 5% over the course of 9 years.
