The History of the Rabbit Proof Fence

A 20 foot ide line was cleared through the bush all the way south to a small bay called starvation bode harbor. 12 foot gates were installed at designated intervals to allow passage through the fence. Wooden posts were also added every mile, each marked with a numbe that represented the distance from burra coppin. The number two fence was completed in april of 19 o five and was one thousand 158 kilometers long. Building it had cost the equivalent of around 83 million australian dollars in today's currency. Scattered along the fence were small government owned stations and homesteads where maintenance supplies, water sheds and other facilities were housed.
