Carrie Mae Weems is celebrated for her Kitchen Table series of the 90s. These are kind of photographic domestic tableau that show the kitchen as a space of intimacy and family drama. She wanted black women to be visible and their activities to be considered of some significance. There's a lot of reading going on in this kitchen. You read this through the body language more than anything else.
