The constant misinformation on russian media makes narratives from the ground difficult for people to believe in and sometimes generate what psychologists call cognitive dissonants. People feel uncomfortable when they are confronted with information that contradicts their beliefs, says Alexander Nekrassov. "I think keeping communications channels open and social media open for these alternative narratives to be heard is the first step," he adds.
