Democracy Never Goes Out With a Bang
Democracy rarely goes out with a bang. It goes out when people do not have the sort of moral formation to actually pursue long term objectives together, as opposed to getting what they want and in a pursuit of immediate gratification. The greatest indicator, according to joseph unwin, is whether or not we have the ability to delay gratification. Can we say no now to something bigger and better later? And this is true of a nation. When you pursue policies that say you've made a sexual decision, and rather than live with the consequence of that sexual decision, you're actually going to pursue convenience by taking a life.
