The Importance of Color in Art
In his day, the idea of painting a scene from memory based on a desire to use a particular color spectrum was backward. Vincent believed that although his use of vibrant color made his paintings appear less realistic, they in fact seemed to look more alive. Some people carry with them entire collections of Renaissance era masterworks by Rembrandt and Vermeer. Others can close their eyes and revisit the impressionists of Paris, Monet, Manet, and Bazille.
