What Role Should Students Play in Assessing Their Learning?

Students should be participants in determining how they're learning as assessed, but the big how and why is going to differ. Maybe it's helping design the assessment mechanisms or creating flexible assignments that allow students to determine what learning is being assessed. Or maybe it's just deprioritizing the assessment entirely in order to emphasize the individual students learning journey through the course. We really need to remove barriers and create a way for students to accurately represent the learning that is taken place.
