The Rise of Judeo-Arabic Poetry
The Islamic period was of course the high point certainly in the Deebo period of Jewish poetry. So far as I know mainly in Hebrew, although it could be that there's lots of Judeo-Arabic poetry I'm not aware of. Jews living in Al-Andalus and Andalusia are native Arabic speakers who will write scholarly Arabic like the Jews of the East. Their poetry is in Hebrew and beautiful medieval poetry. They develop this unbelievably creative meter on the basis of Arabic models,. taking images from the Bible and rendering them in these modes.
