The Pre-Roman Landscape in East Yorkshire

The pre-Roman landscape in this part of eastern Yorkshire is dominated by very large property boundaries represented by enormous earthworks, so-called Yorkshire dikes. The areas in between as large open fields were ranges for stock probably sheep where you could keep them enclosed but in a communal area and you live to one site of it. What we see is that the large range for running sheep on is at some stage divided into small fields which looks like it's a pattern of privatization of the land.
