The Academy's View on Foreign Films
Some of these smaller foreign movies that the distributors don't even realize they are Oscar contenders until they start to pick up steam during the season. And at that point, if you've already put it on a streaming service, you can't unring that bell and all of a sudden wouldn't be eligible in this scenario. I think what the Academy will likely do is they'll probably have some carve outs here to prevent that from happening.
