The Importance of Requirements
If you go ahead and extremely altruistically give up your leg to save a life, you have a moral obligation to save the five lives rather than the one. So I think it's merely a conditional obligation. It's merely the case that if you're going to save either group, then you're required to save the greater number. We've got this balance of requiring reasons that will make an act wrong unless we have a sufficiently strong permitting reason to defeat that.
