Anxiety and Desire
The idea here is that language, despite all of the violence that it really does to bodies, is an alternative to violence. It's how you get expressions like sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never hurt you. The split subject is somebody who can choose to operationalize their sociolinguistic self without resorting to the violence that only their body can effect. So what we're looking at now is a kind of alchemical potion. Desire is the antidote to anxiety in the case of the neurotic.
