The Plague of Galen
The plague of Galen weakened Rome and set in motion the conditions that caused the great Roman Empire to fall but more importantly it set the stage for the spreading of a new religion. The Justinian plague boosted Christianity even further into the realm of major religion status because when the plague of Justinian was framed as punishment for sinful behavior more people converted to Christianity. It's so strange to me the idea that you would turn back to the religion that told you this is all our fault.
