I think in between novels it feeds into how you write, living your normal life. But then I think once you lock into writing a novel you really don't want the distraction of is there any milk in the fridge? Do they have a word for it? I don't know, you'd have to ask. If you need to get to grips with something, unfortunately a book is quite a big thing to come to grips with. It's not just a single small event and I think that's hard. They are extraordinary, unhelpful, can I just say that or something? Oh, really? No, no, I think they do. That's more likely to happen with critics
