I think Lovecraftian horror is just that it feels on the surface. And I think your ringing example is a great example of how we can explain things to provide more detail and then pull it back out. There's something comforting and Lovecraft because he maybe matches that Christian idea of an Old Testament God that is full of, you know, punishment and hate. It's really cool to have a really mean God that decides our fates. The haunting of Hill House TV series on Netflix was a great examples of a show that became less and less scary as it went along.
