25,000 cadres descended on the countryside in january and february 19 30 to enforce its will. Police made upwards of a hundred and forty thousand arrests between january first and april fifteenth 19 30 alone. As collectivization expanded, so too did the definition of colock: everyone with an extra cow or some store bought consumer goods now qualified as a colock. The number of actually rich, actually prosperous peasants had never been that large but officials still had arrest and deportation quotas to meet.
