Putting a Spinning Spanner in the Works
To rock the boat and to ruffle people's feathers is something that might come up if you're talking about change. To throw a spanner in the works is to cause something to go wrong. A rough patch, a rough patch is a temporary bad moment. You can just say we were too ambitious rather than saying bite off more than you can chew. The last ones I wanted to talk about are about kind of bad moments or bad situations yet.
