What Is a Cognitive Module?

There are several ways of looking at how the mind works, as a very broad strokes. In some models, the mind would be one big mechanism that wouldn't have easily identifiable set parts. The term module is kind of fraught in psychology because since it's been either an introduced or popularized by a literary father in the early 80s. And so, the conditions for what counts as a module have been very much relaxed and the main component that remains now is informational encapsulation.
