Decon Is the Lowest Level of Readiness for the Armed Forces in the Cold War.
Decon three is represented by the color yellow, and it represents getting the armed forces ready to fight if they have to. On the first day of the crisis, president kennedy put all our forces, except those in europe, at defcon three - meaning we were now effectively at yellow alert. Defcon one is represented by white, and it means that nuclear war is imminent or has already begun. The what state readiness our forces are at at any particular period of time is often kept confidential.
