The Price of Sexual Services in Athens

The average charge for a prostitute in the 5th and 4th centuries BC ranged from three obels to a drachma. Expensive prostitutes could charge a stutter which was four drachmas or even more, like lace of Corinth did in her prime. The more expensive and exclusive prostitutes were known as a tie-ry, which means female companion but is often referred to nowadays as courtesons.
