Long-term equity investors approach foreign currency hedging in their portfolios. Some currencies move with the world stock market and their own domestic stock markets. The Canadian dollar tends to strengthen when world stock markets are up. But there are other currencies like the Euro, the Yen, and the US dollar that tend to move the other way.

Campbell, a British-American economist, professor of economics at Harvard, and founding partner at Arrowstreet Capital, a systematic asset management firm based in Boston.
