The Crusaders of Malta
The knights hospitale were very closely tied to the french aristocracy. Many of them were involved in various ways in new france, in the french colonies north america. Poincy himself served for a time as the commander of a fortress in acadia,. He went to saint kit's in 16 39 to take up the governorship. And he really threw his efforts, with a great passion, into expanding the colony there. In addition to sponsoring the colonization in martinique and guadaloup he also sent expeditionary forces to capture islands that had already been inhabited.
