What Is a Successful Artist?

What would you define as a successful artist? Because I feel like this is a term that a lot of people are throwing around. There's financial success making enough money to cover your bills and live a life free of poverty. Some artists, they're not out there looking to make money. They have a message that they're trying to convey. Maybe they're political artists and they have something to say about what's happening in the political world or maybe they're raising awareness about certain issues.
